The Hong Kong Crisis

Hong Kong has been in turmoil in many ways since it became independent from the British Commonwealth in 1997. Now, the thought of becoming 'fully' Chinese in 2047 is starting to show in local politics...

It is so sad to behold because we can all recognize how democracy is diminished as the leadership of Hong Kong is beginning to think more and more like Communist China.

It is so sad to think of arrests of demonstrators reminding us of Tiananmen Square in 1989 - history has a strange way of repeating itself, and THAT is a scary thought in other areas, such as Europe and America.

The rights to speak freely, demonstrate etc should be worldwide values, but democracy isn't nearly as 'common' as we think. We shouldn't take this for granted in any way. Once lost, these rights would be missed.
