North Korea - Why Can't We Get Along?

Regular readers know I am a pacifist. I don't like any war. In fact, I dislike ALL forms of hatred, and I don't like the expectation that I should somehow take sides in ANY conflict. I have lost friendships over this when people thought they could manipulate me into political disagreements. I won't have any of it! I will gladly discuss issues, but I want such discussions to be nuanced. Otherwise it is just plain manipulation...

Which is exactly why I simply can't understand why North Korea leader Kim Jong Un is provoking America as he is currently doing. A unanimous security council HAS said it condemns the actions of this country, and it seems a bit stupid to keep going down the alley of conflict!

We are in the 21st century, dear friends. It should be possible to resolve conflicts through negotiation - not war.

What is the purpose of war?

There are NO winners - only losers.

Lives are lost, and people are left either as orphans or as widows. That is NEVER a sensible solution.

There is SO MUCH to be gained if leaders solved their problems at the negotiation table, and yet, we have fooled ourselves into feeling somehow 'above others' in numerous conflicts.

I won't dwell on single events. News media have done this ad nauseum. You all know the examples out there.

We all know very clearly that peace is not merely the absence of war. Real peace requires that we can at least dwell alongside each other without hatred.

All languages have their word for peace. Shalom in Hebrew, Salaam in Arabic, Peace in English, Paix in French, Friede in German...

Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream - and was assassinated for it. We too have a dream. We want peace, and yet we fail to stop ourselves when we work up into a tantrum over little things.

Let's get over this, and let's get along. It shouldn't be all that difficult if we begin to respect one another!
